Cestal Cat by Ceva — Anthelmintic Tablets for Cats (1 tablet)
Cestal Cat is a combined broad-spectrum anthelmintic product intended for the treatment and prevention of helminth infections in cats. The product is effective against round and tapeworms, well tolerated, and suitable for single administration.
Description:
Yellowish-brown tablets with a central score line. Thanks to the liver-flavored additive, the tablets are readily accepted by cats.
Composition:
Active ingredients (per 1 tablet, 400 mg):
- pyrantel embonate — 230 mg
- praziquantel — 20 mg
Excipients:
- cetyl palmitate
- lactose monohydrate
- pre-gelatinized starch
- sodium starch glycolate (type A)
- dried yeast
- flavoring additive (porcine liver powder)
- magnesium stearate
Pharmacological properties:
Cestal Cat is a broad-spectrum anthelmintic (ATCvet QP52A) containing praziquantel and pyrantel embonate, effective against round and tapeworms.
Praziquantel is rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, disrupts parasite membrane permeability, causing paralysis and death. Peak plasma concentration is reached within 1–2 hours after administration. Up to 80% of the substance is excreted by the kidneys as metabolites, mainly within the first 24 hours.
Pyrantel embonate induces spastic paralysis of roundworms through neuromuscular blockade. In cats, it is poorly absorbed and is mainly excreted unchanged in the feces.
The product is low-toxic for cats and does not exhibit embryotoxic or teratogenic effects when used at recommended doses.
Indications for use:
Treatment and prevention of nematode and cestode infections in cats, including infestation with:
- Toxocara cati, Toxascaris leonina
- Ancylostoma tubaeforme, Uncinaria stenocephala
- Taenia taeniaeformis, Taenia pisiformis, Taenia hydatigena
- Dipylidium caninum
- Echinococcus multilocularis
- Joyeuxiella spp.
Dosage:
Administer orally as a single dose at the rate of 1 tablet per 4 kg of body weight (equivalent to: praziquantel — 5 mg/kg, pyrantel embonate — 57.5 mg/kg).
- under 1 kg — 1/4 tablet
- 1–2 kg — 1/2 tablet
- 2–4 kg — 1 tablet
- 4–8 kg — 2 tablets
Method of administration:
The tablet is administered once, either directly or mixed with food. No fasting is required prior to administration.
For prevention, administer once every 3 months. For treatment, a single dose is sufficient; in cases of heavy infestation, repeat after 14 days.
The product may be used in kittens from 3 months of age.
Contraindications:
Do not use in animals with hypersensitivity to the components, in weakened or sick cats. Not recommended for kittens under 6 weeks of age.
Side effects:
None reported.
Warnings:
Fleas act as intermediate hosts for Dipylidium caninum; therefore, effective flea control is necessary to prevent reinfection. Frequent use of anthelmintics from the same class may contribute to parasite resistance.
Form of release:
Tablets in blister packs, packed in cardboard boxes (various pack sizes ranging from 2 to 104 tablets).
Storage conditions:
Store in a dry, dark place at a temperature of 15 °C to 25 °C, separately from food and feed. Keep out of reach of children and animals.
