Composition
Each tablet contains:
- Cimalgex 30 mg — cimicoxib 30 mg
- Cimalgex 80 mg — cimicoxib 80 mg
Pharmaceutical form
Chewable tablets, white or light brown:
- Cimalgex 30 mg — with two score lines, divisible into three parts
- Cimalgex 80 mg — with three score lines, divisible into four parts
Indications for use
For the treatment of pain and inflammation associated with osteoarthritis, as well as for the management of perioperative pain following orthopedic or soft tissue surgery in dogs.
Contraindications
- Do not use in puppies under 10 weeks of age
- Do not use in dogs with gastrointestinal disorders or bleeding
- Do not use concurrently with NSAIDs or corticosteroids
- Do not use in animals with hypersensitivity to cimicoxib or any of the excipients
- Do not use in breeding, pregnant, or lactating bitches
Special warnings
- Use with caution in young dogs under 6 months of age
- Dogs with cardiac, renal, or hepatic dysfunction require close monitoring
- Avoid use in dehydrated, hypovolemic, or hypotensive animals
Adverse reactions
- Very common: mild gastrointestinal disturbances (vomiting, diarrhea)
- Rare: ulcers, bleeding, anorexia, lethargy, polyuria, elevated creatinine
- Very rare: renal failure
Use during pregnancy and lactation
Do not use in breeding, pregnant or lactating animals.
Interactions with other medicinal products
Do not administer with other NSAIDs or corticosteroids. A washout period should be observed when switching from one NSAID to another, based on the pharmacokinetic profile of the previous product.
Dosage and administration
Oral use. Administer 2 mg of cimicoxib per kg of body weight once daily.
Treatment duration:
- Perioperative pain: one dose 2 hours before surgery + 3–7 days post-op
- Osteoarthritis: up to 6 months under veterinary supervision
Overdose
Overdose may result in gastrointestinal disorders, blood changes, or renal and hepatic dysfunction. There is no specific antidote. Symptomatic treatment is recommended, including fluid therapy and gastric protection.
Pharmacological properties
Cimicoxib is a selective COX-2 inhibitor. Its anti-inflammatory effect is due to inhibition of pro-inflammatory mediators (e.g. prostaglandin E2). The duration of action is 10–14 hours.
Storage conditions
- No special storage conditions required
- Halved tablets in blisters should be used within 2 days
- In bottles — use within 90 days of opening
