Khao Mani (or Diamond Eye) - is a cat with sapphire or topaz-colored eyes, whose graceful movements seem to give it a special glow. Known as Thailand's “white gemstone,” this breed was long the privilege of kings. Today, the Kao Mani continues to enchant with its rarity, unusual appearance, and noble character.

Origin of the breed

The Kao Mani has been known to mankind for over 600 years. It was first described in the Thai “Book of Cat Poems” — Tamra Maew, which said that these snow-white creatures bring good luck, wealth, and happiness to the home. For a long time, the breed was closed to the outside world: as a national treasure, it was bred only in palaces. Even King Rama IV preferred to pass off other cats as Kao Mani, just to preserve the purity of the breed within the country.

It was only at the end of the 20th century that the world had the opportunity to get to know this white treasure better.

Appearance

The Kao Mani is a cat with impeccable taste in appearance.

  1. Coat: short, smooth, close-fitting, exclusively white.
  2. Eyes: can be amber, blue, green, or different colors — the latter feature is considered particularly valuable.
  3. Build: slender, flexible, muscular. Weight — from 3 to 5 kg.
  4. Height at the withers: up to 30 cm.

Interesting fact: kittens sometimes have a dark spot on their head — it disappears by about a year of age and is considered normal.

Character

The Kao Mani is not just a beautiful cat, but also a soul with character. They are:

  • active and curious, love to watch people, but rarely interfere;
  • intelligent, easily adapt to their owner's routine, quickly become attached;
  • sociable but reserved — they will not “cling” to you, but will always be nearby;
  • love heights and secluded places, and explore their surroundings with interest;
  • get along well with children and other animals when properly socialized.

This breed does not need excessive attention — what is important to them is respect, care, and personal space.

Breed care

The Kao Mani does not require any special care, but attention to detail is the key to its well-being.

  1. Coat: not prone to tangling, combing 1-2 times a week is sufficient.
  2. Hygiene: it is important to clean their ears regularly, trim their claws, and treat them for parasites.
  3. Checkups: Preventive visits to the vet should not be postponed — the condition of the coat is directly related to health.

Please note: Like other white cats with blue eyes, Kao-Manis may be deaf. Special tests are recommended before breeding.

Nutrition

The Kao-Mani's diet requires attention and balance:

  1. Not all commercial foods are suitable — it is especially important to avoid cheap and low-quality options.
  2. White cats need food with controlled mineral content to prevent FIP.
  3. Choose food based on your pet's age, activity level, and health.
  4. Always provide access to fresh water and follow a feeding schedule.

Proper nutrition is the key to a shiny coat and a long life.
